Who?

This is an exciting opportunity for you to build a career in Elections and Electoral Registration; and in this role you will have the opportunity to get involved in innovative projects which will change the way elections are run in the UK over the next couple of years, so you must be somebody who embraces change and new ways of working. 

What will you be doing?

You will join a small team who are responsible for compiling the electoral register and running the local and national elections for the Council. 

You will be visiting assigned households within the Wealden District to complete online household canvass returns and individual registration applications using a hand-held mobile device (tablet). You will deal with the public on a daily basis in a way that promotes the section and its services in accordance with the Council’s corporate policies.

You will also need to ensure that resident’s personal information is handled confidentially and securely in line with relevant legislation, and be confident in advising members of the public regarding the completion of the household enquiry/registration process; explaining the importance of the data collection and presenting a positive image of the Council at all times.

What do you need?

The ideal candidate will need to have attained good levels of numeracy and literacy and show an awareness and appreciation of data protection requirements.  You should have experience of working with the public and be able to demonstrate excellent customer service and organisational skills, along with proven quick and accurate data entry skills, and be familiar with the use of hand-held mobile devices.

You will need to have excellent customer service skills and will deal with customers by telephone, email and face-to-face, and have the ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as be confident working independently and managing your own workload.

You will need to be a confident and articulate communicator and demonstrate political awareness and discretion. 

The role will require working outside of normal office hours (evenings and weekends) at peak times during the canvass and elections, and there will be a regular requirement for travel around the Wealden District, using your own transport (for which you will receive payment for business mileage).
