Applications for full or part-time working are welcome.
Start date: Either Easter or September 2023
We are seeking to appoint a Literacy Coach to lead the development of school-wide literacy teaching. The teaching of literacy is central to our whole school curriculum vision and we passionately believe that to prepare our students for life beyond school, we must support them to be capable speakers, readers and writers.
In recent years, we have pursued a disciplinary approach to literacy, challenging our teachers and Curriculum Leaders to carefully consider the literacy skills students need if they are to read, write and speak like historians, scientists, artists etc. The successful candidate will play a key role in evolving this strategy, and will have a sound understanding of what good literacy teaching looks like. You should possess the soft skills required to support teachers and Subject Leaders to further develop the teaching of literacy schoolwide. Furthermore, we would want you to be committed to creating an enthusiasm for reading school wide. You will have ownership of the whole school tutor time guided reading programme, and will work closely with the Heads of Year to ensure this curriculum is delivered effectively. You will also line manage the school librarian and have strategic oversight of the school library.
The successful candidate may have prior curriculum leadership experience, alternatively this may be their first additional responsibility. Either way, they will be passionate about literacy, have the ability to lead others, and be an excellent Teacher of English in their own right. In return for your passion, commitment and drive, we offer a highly supportive working environment, students who are intellectually curious and keen to learn, and excellent continued professional development opportunities. Our English department is well resourced and all teachers have their own classrooms.
This is a very exciting time to join our school. In November 2022, we joined King’s Group Academies (KGA), following an associate membership lasting nearly two years. We are really excited by the opportunities this is creating for sharing ideas and approaches across schools. At our last OFSTED inspection (November 2021), we were rated as ‘Good’ in all areas and the inspection team noted that:
“Pupils enjoy coming to their happy and inclusive school. There is a strong ethos of mutual respect, courtesy and care for others.”
“Pupils behave well in lessons and around school. They value the educational opportunities that they receive and want to succeed. Knowing their teachers have high expectations and want the very best for them encourages pupils to take pride in their work. Pupils confidently ask for help when they need it.”
We aspire to be rated ‘Outstanding’, driven by a core belief that all of our students deserve nothing but the best possible teaching and support in order to be happy, healthy and successful. We aim to deliver the best quality teaching and learning in a school where staff and students have respect for, and pride in themselves, their school and their community.
If you feel you have the necessary skills, mindset and determination to join us on our journey towards ‘outstanding,’ we would very much like to hear from you. Visits to the school prior to application are warmly welcomed.
