Your role in our journey

 

As a Public Health Officer with Barnsley Council, your work will make an essential contribution toward our future success as we work to make a real difference to our communities.

This Public Health Officer post is based within the core Public Health team and will cover Health Care Public Health and Health Protection.  The roles support partnership work to improve life expectancy and inequalities across the borough, by promoting prevention, early detection and access to health services when and where our residents need it.  Alongside this, the posts will provide support to our local authority health protection assurance role and focus on working on our health protection challenges. Specific work areas include early detection and prevention of cancer and cardiovascular disease, COVID-19 vaccination engagement and communications, seasonal flu vaccination, adult and childhood immunisations, outbreak management and screening programmes.

 

What you’ll need

To join us, you’ll need a relevant degree and or extensive experience working in public health or a closely related field. Your track record should include the delivery of evidence-based projects and you’ll also have delivered work to improve population health outcomes that have a tangible impact on communities. However, to succeed in this role you’ll also need a flexible and proactive attitude and ability to communicate with a wide range of partners at every level.
