About the role

Social Work advert for Qualified Social Workers:

Our offer:

East Sussex is a fantastic place to live and work, with it’s rolling hills and countryside green walks to small coastal towns which have had a recent revival. We are looking for eight exceptional Social Workers to come to work with our Adult Social Care Operational Teams.  We have opportunities to work in the following teams:

  • Continuing Health Care Team
  • Conquest Hospital Discharge and Community Team
  • Eastbourne District General Hospital Discharge and Community Team

Please indicate your preference in your expressions of interest.

We have excellent relationships with local partners and hospital trusts. Together we work collaboratively to serve people to safely discharge from hospital back to their homes in the community. We promote the home first model and discharge to assess approach and believe with the appropriate safe level of care clients can maintain their independence and stay at home, safely where possible. We work closely with our reablement teams and our inpatient rehabilitation providers to maximise client’s independence and build confidence and positive outcomes for the client we work with.  Where necessary we work with our local Integrated Commissioning Boards (ICB’s) to ensure people we serve get access to continuing care funding.

To carry out the role you will need a detailed knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (2005), the Mental Health Act(1983), Equalities legislation and the Deprivation of Liberty safeguards. You must be able to implement this legislation in your daily practice. You will also be expected to carry out the County’s section (42) safeguarding duties to protect and mitigate risks to the clients we serve. You will be expected to assess clients in line with our other statutory duties such as section (9) assessment under the Care Act (2014), using a strengths based, outcome focus approach.  Experience of court of protection work would be an advantage in this role, however training is offered to successful candidates.

In return for your excellent skills and expertise, East Sussex County Council offers extensive training and career development; you will be supported by monthly individual supervision where you can develop your continuous professional development (CPD) via monitoring your work against the Professional Capability Framework and Knowledge and Skills Statement aligned with your level of experience. You will have the opportunity to engage in monthly reflective supervision with your peers to add towards your registration requirements.

Qualifications required for the post:

You will be a social worker currently registered with Social Work England and will have obtained a social work qualification, either a,  C.Q.S.W, DipSW, a Degree or Master’s in social work.  Social Workers holding Assessed and Support Year Employment qualifications are encouraged to apply.

What we offer in return:

Finally, there are many rewards to working for East Sussex and being part of our service, some of these include:-

  • Competitive salary
  • Generous pension scheme
  • Hybrid working – working one or two days in an office and your remaining working week remotely
  • Access to our training offer which may include financial support for you to work towards being a Best Interest Assessor and/or an Approved Mental Health Professional
  • Your annual registration fee with Social Worker England will be reimbursed
  • You will have the opportunity to apply for our lease car scheme subject to qualifying criteria
  • Five training and development days per year to support your continuous professional development
