Barnsley Libraries are looking for two positive and imaginative candidates to join our team. We have one vacancy for a Librarian (Reader Development and Stock) specialising in managing stock (both print and electronic) and offering a range of activities and events relating to reader development, and one vacancy for a Librarian (Children and Young People) specialising in working with children and young people, including engaging with schools and families, delivering our Summer Reading Challenge and developing a range of activities and events.
Barnsley has an ambitious strategy to continue to develop our Library Service, creating places to meet, study, learn and thrive at the heart of our communities. Barnsley Libraries have recently become a National Portfolio Organisation, and will benefit from additional funding from The Arts Council England to deliver a range of programmes and activities. Our central branch Library@TheLightbox is part of the ‘The Glassworks’, the Council’s transformative town centre development scheme, and we are starting a programme to refurbish our branch libraries, meaning this is an exciting time to join the service.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, delivery, promotion and co-ordination of library services. You will be a strong and enthusiastic advocate for these services, looking to increase participation and share the joy and benefits of reading for pleasure. You will be responsible for the management of relevant stock across all libraries, including utilising data to maximise usage, developing stock selection processes and monitoring budgets. You will support our staff in helping service users with their reading choices, providing advice and guidance and delivering training in related areas. You will contribute to our marketing and communication activities to promote the work of the service.
The successful candidate will hold a Level 6 qualification in a relevant subject, with experience of working with a variety of audiences in a library setting.
We are looking for a creative and innovative candidate who is able to motivate partners and members of the public to engage with libraries and to develop vibrant and exciting activity programmes and new opportunities for local communities. You will have the skills to liaise, negotiate and collaborate with suppliers and keep up to date with developments in the sector.
The successful candidate will need to be able to manage a varied workload, using their own initiative and adapting to changing circumstances. You must be a team player with strong communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of partners.
