Please note there are two vacancies available for similar roles but in different teams. Please ensure you state which role you wish to apply for, or whether you wish to apply for both:

  • Senior Research and Data Analyst - Fixed term until March 2024
  • Senior Research and Data Analyst (Cyber, Digital and Technology) - Fixed term until March 2024

The role
There are two fixed-term posts for Senior Research and Data Analyst currently available.  One of these is in the Research and Information Team, and one is working for the Cyber, Digital and Technology (CDT) Programme.  In these roles, you will design and deliver surveys and conduct data analysis; commission research; provide data and analytic services for the LGA; and plan and manage the delivery of workstreams or portfolios of research and data work.

The requirements
The successful candidates in both roles will design and deliver surveys and conduct data analysis; commission research; provide data and analytic services for the LGA; and plan and manage the delivery of workstreams or portfolios of research and data work.  The two posts are in either:

Research and Information Team

The Senior Research and Data Analyst in this team will deliver evidence for the LGA’s policy development and lobbying work, evaluate and provide information for sector support and deliver our LG Inform data service to authorities.  The team’s work is varied, widely used within the organisation and often features in the media.

Cyber, Digital and Technology Programme

The Senior Research and Data Analyst working for this programme will primarily deliver and manage a workstream focused on the digital landscape in local government. The information gathered is intended to support councils as they seek to improve the secure use of digital technology for the benefit of their communities. The role will involve applying research methodologies and analytical techniques to address issues concerning the usability, accessibility and security of modern digital public services.

For either post, it’s essential that you have both research (particularly survey) skills and data analysis skills and can write and communicate well.  We are looking for team players with good organisational abilities, and ideally experience of commissioning research and managing staff and/or contractors to deliver projects successfully.

The successful candidate can expect to take on a range of work that supports and promotes local authorities and helps them to improve.

Job descriptions for both posts are below.  To find out more information about what it’s like to work at the LGA, please visit 'Benefits and working for the LGA'; and for information on equality and diversity at the LGA, please visit 'Equality and diversity at the LGA'.

You must have the right to work in the UK; the LGA is unfortunately unable to offer sponsorship visas. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.
