A high level of bookings for the coming year has created a great opportunity for enthusiastic and motivated instructors to increase our small team at Hudnall Park residential activities centre.
These posts are on variable hours contracts to suit people with existing commitments although there is also a possibility to progress to a full time, permanent, post.
Situated in over 85 acres of open downland and mixed woodland on the edge of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Hudnall Park provides residential and day educational courses to organised groups.
Job Duties:
Part of Hertfordshire’s SfYP within Children’s Services, the Centre is highly regarded for its standards of excellence and professionalism in delivering high quality outdoor learning experiences.
Applicants should have an understanding of how outdoor education can be used to develop children’s and young people’s personal and social skills, and believe in the value of outdoor learning
Successful applicants will spend most of their time delivering outcome-based sessions to visiting groups but will also be expected to assist in maintaining equipment and developing resources with other staff to support the delivery of the activities on offer.
Some evening and weekend working may be required to support the operational needs of the Centre, for which an allowance payment will be made.
There is no instructor accommodation on site.
Applicants should have their own motorised transport and driving licence.
Skill/experience in any of the land-based activities offered by the centre will be advantageous - archery, bush-craft, climbing, low ropes, mountain-biking, problem-solving and team-building activities, orienteering or navigation, along with an interest or experience in teaching or leading natural history and environmental activities.
Preference will be given to applicants holding at least one leadership/instructor award in the following: -
- Archery (GNAS/Archery GB),
- Mountain-biking (MIAS/MBLA L2),
- Navigation (Lowland/Countryside Leader or BEL)
- ERCA Low Ropes Instructor
- Qualifications in Bushcraft or Forest School
This should be supported by a current First Aid qualification that will last for the duration of the appointment. A climbing wall instructor award or higher would also be useful.
