Kingston & Sutton
Kingston is a growing borough. By 2050 the population of the borough is expected to increase by 30 per cent. That’s over 50,000 extra people who will need to move around the borough for work, leisure and education. Sustainable travel is key to accommodating that growth and ensuring the continued success of the borough whilst the space for travelling in remains the same.
In 2014, Kingston were one of just three local authorities, who won a bid for a share of £100 million worth of funding from the Mayor of London and Transport for London under the MiniHolland Programme. We are now in the fourth year of a £31m programme designed to encourage more people to cycle and to improve safety while providing better streets and places for everyone.
About the role
We are looking for up to five people to join the ‘Go Cycle’ events team. You will join a well established team supporting delivery of the ‘Go Cycle’ programme and will have the opportunity to work across a wide range of events and activities.
As a member of the events team you will be a ‘Go Cycle ambassador’ communicating with the public to raise awareness of the programme and promote our supporting measures such as free bike loans, cycle skills training and bike maintenance classes to a wide range of audiences including businesses, schools and community groups. The role of Go Cycle Ambassador is essential to ensure our engagement with local people is effective, efficient and well recorded.
The position is on a supply basis and hours of employment will vary. We are seeking individuals that are flexible and can work weekends and occasionally in the evenings. The main activities will include:
- Supporting technical staff at key events
- Delivering personalised travel planning advice
- Providing practical help such as bike maintenance
- Promoting the Go Cycle infrastructure programme
