In 2019, Waltham Forest will host the first ever London Borough of Culture; an unprecedented opportunity to celebrate the communities and local culture of the Capital.
We’re looking for an outstanding Head of Marketing and Communications to lead the promotion and positioning of our cultural programme. With substantial experience in delivering high profile campaigns and public engagement programmes, you will responsible for attracting audiences and ensuring community involvement in a yearlong high-quality arts programme across the London Borough of Waltham Forest.
When the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, announced the winner of this landmark competition he said it was it was the level of local support that set us apart and you will ensure as we enter our year of celebration that we deliver on those promises.
About the role
London Borough of Culture is awarded by the Mayor of London and moves to a different part of the City each year. Waltham Forest is the first in 2019, followed by Brent in 2020.
We intend to deliver an incredible show for London and the residents of our borough. The title is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to curate a programme of major arts events, while at the same time celebrating the culture that exists on every corner of our communities.
As Head of Marketing & Communications, you will be responsible for all of our public-facing campaigns and audience development activity. With a small team, you will plan, implement and evaluate a series of exciting and creative campaigns for the cultural programme and wider engagement initiatives, such as volunteering.
Working closely with the GLA, key influencers and partners, you will help us realise the benefits of the London Borough of Culture for residents, businesses, the Borough and London. Your expertise and commitment will ensure we maximise the unique opportunity London Borough of Culture gives us, putting Waltham Forest on the map and leaving a lasting legacy that will benefit our community.
As a new initiative, you will have the chance to establish London Borough of Culture as significant programme within the cultural fabric of the capital. In doing so, you will nurture and build an amazing network across government, the media, the arts and culture sector and other agencies to shape and support the project for years to come.
The post is being offered as a fixed term contract to April 2020. We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements or other creative solutions to deliver against our objectives.
You will a leader in marketing and communications, bring significant expertise in the implementation of high-profile campaigns, ideally with experience of working within the cultural sector.
This is a creative role, for an individual looking to work within an agile team delivering campaigns across all art-forms as well as a wider programme of public engagement. Your track record will cover media relations, digital and traditional marketing with a solid understanding for how to build audiences.
You will excel in stakeholder management and working in complex organisations, with familiarity in partnership working across arts, culture and government.
