Wokingham Borough Council is looking for a dynamic senior finance professional to lead the Council’s core finance planning and accountancy team. As a qualified accountant with significant experience in public sector accounting, you will be responsible for the authority's critical financial arrangements including closing the Council’s accounts, budget setting and the capital programme. You will be a key support to both the Director of Corporate Services (CFO) and Finance Lead Specialist (HoF) by providing timely and high quality technical financial advice, ensuring the continuity of sound financial management, governance and value for money.
Reporting to the Finance Lead Specialist, your role will include the development and management of staff in the Financial Planning and Technical Accountancy function, (including financial systems, treasury management, group finance and the financial accounting team) as well as developing strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
To be considered for the role you must be a qualified accountant with management and leadership experience some of which would have been gained in the local government sector. Able to demonstrate excellent stakeholder management skills, strong communication and presentation skills you will also have an outstanding track record in delivering a customer focused service. Demonstrable experience of leading a finance team through the annual closedown process is considered essential to this role.
