Education Training and Employment Support Officer within the Youth Justice Team (YJT)

£28,356 - £30,108 per annum pro rata
There is a strong relationship between being out of school / college or training and offending behaviour. The significance and importance of this role cannot be underestimated in helping young people to build firm foundations for the future though engagement in Education, Training and Employment (ETE).
The ETE Support Officer’s responsibilities will include building trusting and supportive relationships with young people known to the YJT who are experiencing difficulty in education. The post holder will working with schools, London Borough of Merton colleagues and training providers will seek to provide to provide education solutions to young people through a continuity of outreach work and support to young people / their parent / carers in Merton many of whom who may already be known to the Children, Schools and Families department and in particular the SEN Service.
An understanding and knowledge of the Criminal Justice System – strong skills in engaging challenging young people - an educational knowledge base – and an in depth understanding of young peoples learning needs including those with SEN are essential for the post holder.
