An exciting opportunity to join our Legal Services Section, based in Worthing Town Centre, West Sussex, providing a joint legal service to Adur District Council and Worthing Borough Council.

We are looking for a qualified Solicitor or Barrister with at least 3 years’ post-qualification experience, to act as Senior Lawyer and Deputy Monitoring Officer for the Councils.  You must have substantial knowledge and experience of local government law and practice. The successful candidate will undertake both contentious and non-contentious legal business, managing and providing quality legal services to all levels of the Councils and assisting the Solicitor to the Councils in the provision of corporate legal advice.

You will be required to regularly advise Members and Senior Officers, and attend Council meetings which will involve some evening work.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills; strong negotiating skills; the ability to apply the law to complex issues and provide clear, accurate legal advice; and be an excellent team player.

Staff are our most important asset and we therefore have a benefit package which reflects our continuing commitment to our employees;
