Specialist Health Visitor
£44,628 - £49,674 inclusive of higher cost allowance – PO5/O6 equivalent to Band 7. This posts may attract a market supplement to facilitate salary alignment with current equivalent AfC pay grade.

This post is directly employed by the London Borough of Newham, who was the first London borough to offer a fully integrated 0-19 health and social care service after we assumed direct responsibility for providing School Nursing services, Health Visiting and Family Nurse Partnership in 2017. Therefore our CYPS directorate will be delivering the 0-19 Healthy Child programme through the Childrens Health Service.

We have a permanent and stable management team in the Children’s Health Service and are now recruiting experienced Specialist Health Visitors to the remaining vacancies in our Child Development Service.

The 0-19 Children's Health service had their CQC inspection in 2021 and rated Good in all areas.

About the Job

To work as part of the integrated Child Development Service (CDS) delivered in partnership with the London Borough of Newham (LBN) and East London Foundation Trust (ELFT) as part of a multi- agency team which includes medical and allied health professionals to provide expert clinical assessments, advice and support to children and families under the care of the child development service.

To provide a specialist health visiting service to children with additional needs and their families based on the national refreshed health visiting model evidenced by the Healthy Child Programme 0-5 years (HCP) and the NICE Guidelines.

To manage an individualised caseload and as the Lead professional and key coordinator for the family to work in collaboration with statutory and voluntary agencies ensuring that the child and family’s needs are met in a timely manner. To deliver expert and culturally sensitive programmes on an individual or group basis to promote the health and wellbeing of children with additional needs and their families.

To undertake comprehensive initial assessments and screening using the appropriate evidence based tools and equipment and key stages along the 0- 5 years life course and make appropriate referrals in response to identified needs.

To facilitate and co-ordinate health promotion programmes in partnership with Statutory and voluntary agencies within established groups to Identify and assess deviations from normal health, growth or development in Children and refer promptly to, or mobilise appropriate services and resources in accordance with identified needs, local and National policy directives.

To work within the London borough of Newham Children’s Health service Safeguarding policies; participate in, and develop, early intervention initiatives designed to detect and prevent child maltreatment and neglect, attending relevant meetings and case conferences as required

About You

You will:

  • Be a registered Nurse (essential)
  • Have a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse Qualification -  Health Visitor (essential)
  • Hold a current NMC registration (essential)
  • Have a BSC/ Post graduate degree or equivalent (essential)
  • Have a ENB 998/997 or recognized teaching qualification (essential)
  • Have a passion and or experience of working with children with additional/complex needs & their families
  • Be able to assess effectively, manage risk and plan in an outcome focused way.
  • Be confident in delivering and willing to improve upon effective direct work interventions with families.
  • Remain focused on your own continuous professional development.
  • Strive to share learning and collaborate with practitioners and multi-agency partners to achieve outcomes for children and their families.
  • Be IT literate e.g. using clinical systems, word processing, email and internet use.
