About us

Hillingdon Council: Putting our Residents first.

We are proud of our award-winning and nationally recognised library service. All 17 libraries plus the Mobile library have been refurbished or rebuilt and are open to the public for a minimum of 6 days per week, including late nights. They offer up-to-date book stock, computers, online resources and a packed events programme to encourage a love of libraries and reading.

About the role

Uxbridge Central library is one of Hillingdon's most popular libraries with the highest footfall in the borough. Close to an Underground station, a busy shopping centre and several schools, the library is particularly well-used by families. The branch delivers a full programme of weekly events for under 5s and older people, including activities for people living with dementia.

The core purpose of this role is to support the Manager at Uxbridge Library and supervise a team of staff in the day-to-day running of the branch.

You will assist with performance management and building management, as well as working with partners and Hillingdon residents. The Uxbridge Library Assistant Branch Manager attends and contributes to regular branch meetings and completes projects for the benefit of the service under the direction of the manager.

Work patterns will be in discussion with Managers and based on our current opening hours which are subject to change and may need to be revisited. Current working hours will include some Saturdays and/or Sundays and some evenings until 8.00 pm.

You will be expected to support, develop and implement initiatives for reading for pleasure, independent lifelong learning and libraries as community hubs. You will support your manager in ensuring the team at Uxbridge library is energised, enthusiastic and offering the best possible service.

About you

You are a positive and enthusiastic person with experience and skill in leading and inspiring teams, delivering front line services and working with partners to develop ideas and initiatives.

You are a skilled communicator, adapting your style to ensure your colleagues and the public receive clear, accurate information. You are particularly skilled at and enjoy working with both children and older people and able to forge positive relationships with them.

You are confident delegating work and motivating your team members. You are organised and efficient, able to set and follow procedures, and be flexible with both your time and your thinking to solve problems.
