About the role

Community Ranger – Ouse Valley Climate Action Project

Part time 22.5 hours per week

Salary range £27,582 - £29,856 per annum pro rata, this is a 3-year funded post

Based Newhaven with travel to partner locations across Lewes District.

Sitting within SCDA’s Community Development & Health team overall, you will work to the Ouse Valley Climate Action Project Manager (employed by the South Downs National Park Authority), and alongside the Community Engagement Co-ordinator and Project Administrator.

Having significant experience of working within the conservation field, you will take responsibility for the coordination, support, and confidence building required in the community to enable individuals and groups to support their own climate action work.

As an experienced community worker accustomed to supporting groups, you will also bring strong practical and academic knowledge and experience of conservation practises.

Whilst ensuring continued reach into under-represented sections of the community, you will facilitate the development of community ideas and help to address climate change at a local level.  In addition, enhancing local communities and groups knowledge on environmental ideas, practical techniques and habitat restoration.

This will enable groups to further their work whilst simultaneously meeting the targets of OVCA outputs for habitat restoration, community outreach, shared knowledge, education and wellbeing.

This role requires experience of community work, in addition to being motivated self-starters who are able to plan and manage time effectively, use initiative and demonstrate a flexible & positive approach to community engagement.  Being car owners and drivers is preferred.
