The starting salary for this role is £36,282 per annum based on a 36 hour working week. We’re happy to talk about flexible working, including part-time and job share arrangements.
Whilst our offices are open for you to use as you need to, we usually meet face-to-face as a team once a month and have a weekly ‘anchor’ day where we go into the office when we can, and particularly if we want to see a friendly face. Outside of any priority or urgent face-to-face meetings we’re happy for you to work where you’re happiest working.

About the role
You will play an important role in supporting in shaping the future of the council; helping to set its strategic direction and assisting services in delivering on the council’s ambitions more efficiently and transparently. You will support the development of evidence-led policies and strategies that provide value for money and improve outcomes. You will research, identify and analyse emerging issues and requirements locally, regionally and nationally that will have an impact on the council, partners and residents.
You will provide policy advice and briefings to the corporate and political leadership – so an understanding of the local and national policy agenda and the implications for the council, partners and residents is important.
We’ve recently carried out a strategic review of our approach to business planning across the council and the team are leading on the implementation of a number of recommendations to improve our approach. In this role you’ll have the opportunity to get stuck into several new workstreams related to this project and strategic planning in general.
In return, the work of the Corporate Strategy and Policy team promises plenty of autonomy, collaborative working, and personal stretch aligned to individual development goals. The post holder will grow new skills that engage strategy and policy at a local, regional and national level.
About the Corporate Strategy & Policy Team
The team is situated at the heart of the council, and we work across a breadth of topics, projects and issues which are centred around delivering and advancing the 2030 Community Vision and our priority objectives set out in the Organisation Strategy. We work in collaboration with colleagues across every service area of the council and manage many of the council's relationships and advocacy with external partners at a local, regional and national level.
