West Berkshire’s Virtual School champions the education of children and young people in care, supporting social workers by chairing and recording termly personal education planning meetings (PEPs).
These meetings involve the child or young people, the school or college’s designated teacher, the foster carer or supported living host and the social worker. The meetings ensure targets and actions are agreed that support progress and learning.
A successful PEP Coordinator has:
- A passion for young people’s education
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent literacy
- Strong time management with the ability to multi-task
The post will involve chairing PEPs for a number of young people, many of whom are unaccompanied asylum seeking young people who have arrived in the UK without their parents. The post is offered on a term time only basis and is community based. This means that the post holder will be spending the majority of their time attending meetings in schools in and outside West Berkshire, or working from home. Access to a car and a suitable home working space are essential.
We are ideally looking to offer the successful candidate the full number of hours advertised above. We may however consider offering less hours than advertised providing they meet the requirements of the role and service which will be determined by the recruiting manager.
