As a HR Officer you will provide a variety of advice and support to both internal and external customers on a range of human resources and organisational development issues and provide administrative support to the team. This is a career grade post, for which you will need as a minimum a Level 3 apprenticeship or qualification in a related discipline with a commitment to study for a HR professional qualification and membership of a professional body.
You will have experience of working in HR, knowledge and understanding of relevant policies and procedures, and so up to date knowledge of employment law is a must to enable the provision of first line advice and guidance to our workforce. You will have high professional standards and be able to manage challenging workloads coupled with excellent communication skills.

Your role in our journey
As a HR Officer, you’ll assist in providing a people-centred service to internal and external customers, including professional advice and guidance on a variety of Human Resources and organisational development matters with a particular focus on supporting managers with absence management.
You will empower them to manage employee resources fairly and equitably. Naturally, you’ll see that they do everything right by best practice, employment legislation and Barnsley’s own culture and policies. What you’ll need

You’ll bring to the role experience in HR – assist in providing professional advice and guidance to managers, formulating policies, analysing data, and solving problems. Committed to working in genuine partnership with others, you have excellent communication skills, knowledge of employment law and real insight into the challenges of local government.
