This role offers an exciting opportunity foran experienced Arboriculturalist to work as part of the Green Team.
The successful candidate will work alongside theSenior Arboricultural Officer to assist with the strategic management anddevelopment of the Boroughs tree stock. This will include making informed treeworks recommendations, providing technical advice to the Planning department onall arboricultural matters and responding to tree related queries.
Tower Hamlets Council is committed to maintaining and improving its greenspaces across the Borough and the Arboricultural Officer will have a key rolein implementing this.
The keyresponsibilities for this role are:
ImplementTower Hamlets Council’s tree strategy
Carryout VTA and make tree works recommendations using Ezytreev
Providetechnical advice to the planning department on all arboricultural matters
Respondto council departments, local members and members of the public regarding tree relatedqueries
Organisenew and replacement tree planting across the Borough
Monitorarboriculture contracts and prepare tenders
Liaisewith and advise council departments and other public and private sectororganisations on tree related issues.
Respondto emergencies and issue relevant tree works.
Implementand promote equal opportunities, including undertaking any training wherenecessary.
Implementand promote the councils health and safety policy to safeguard employees,contractors, members of the public, property and the environment.
Youwill have a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in Arboriculture or an equivalentsubject.
Youwill have the appropriate skills to correctly identify tree species, carry outvisual tree assessments (VTA), make tree works recommendations and carry outamenity assessments of trees.
You will have a thorough understanding of trees and their management in thepublic realm, including an up to date understanding and knowledge of currentarboricultural issues.
Youwill have experience working in arboricultural planning and development,including an in depth knowledge of relevant Planning Legislation and BritishStandards.
You will have experience planting trees in the public realm, including athorough understanding of above and below ground considerations and correcttree species selection.
Youwill have good organisational skills and the ability to organise your ownpriorities and work independently.
Youwill have good written and verbal communication skills.
Youwill have a good understanding of IT and keyboard skills. The authority usesEzytreev tree management software and a good knowledge of this would beadvantageous.
Youwill have a good understanding of the positive impacts trees have and thepositive role they play in environmental management and quality.
Youwill have a proactive approach in terms of promoting community and third sectorinvolvement.
A valid UK driving licence and/or vehiclewould be desirable.
