The Emergency Planning and Resilience Team ensure that East Sussex County Council is fully prepared to deal effectively with a full range of emergencies from localised through to catastrophic. The Team minimises the risk of serious damage to human welfare, the environment and to security by providing professional expertise and guidance on emergency management issues across the organisation and to the residents of East Sussex.
The Emergency Planning service is delivered via a partnership arrangement between the County Council, four of the five district/borough councils and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, and as such the team works at various locations in support of partnership members and is overseen by a Partnership Board.
The post holder will be responsible for providing support and advice to members of the partnership to enable them to discharge their duties under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. The individual will be responsible for helping to manage and support the delivery of emergency planning and resilience advice throughout the County and work closely with other category 1 and 2 responders. The main duties will be to develop emergency planning in a wide context, including business continuity planning and providing support for lead officers during an emergency. The partnership also supports the Sussex Resilience Forum and the successful candidate will take an active part in this activity. Membership of either the Emergency Planning Society or the Business Continuity Institute is encouraged.
East Sussex County Council is a very successful and ambitious authority with a strong track record of delivery. We are seeking to appoint an individual with relevant skills and/or experience in emergency planning, business continuity and/or disaster relief to join our Emergency Planning and Resilience Team as an Emergency Planning Officer.
There is the possibility for this post to be part-time/subject to flexible working arrangements and this should be discussed at interview.
