Casual Communication Centre Operator

£12.43 per hour
Here at Welwyn Hatfield Council, our Communication Centre provides an emergency service to around 7000 households, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You will be joining a busy team to provide emergency support to the elderly, sick and disabled residents in our community.
You will offer reassurance, assess situations and ensure that the appropriate services and personnel attend the scene of the emergency. Outside of office hours, you will also be the first point of contact for all council emergencies including repairs.
The role will appeal to someone with experience of working in a pressurised environment. You will be able to deal calmly and tactfully with all kinds of calls and will be sensitive to the needs of the callers and have a genuine interest in their well-being. You must be able to think on your feet, be proficient in MS Office packages and be confident in learning bespoke systems used by the team.
Working a shift pattern that covers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, you must also be able to cover overtime shifts, often at short notice. This will include day, evening and overnight shifts. As this is a casual role, flexibility is essential to cover any of the following shifts:
- 2pm – 11pm
- 11pm – 8am
The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential in this post.
