About the role
Ideally situated in Kent for accessing vibrant towns and rural villages, the Borough of Tonbridge & Malling is a magnet for businesses and development, and prides itself on its thriving communities, rapidly developing economy and beautiful natural environment.
Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council is a dynamic and forward-looking organisation with an impressive record of achievement and a sound financial footing. The Council has an excellent reputation as a place where people want to live, work and do business.
Whilst we are a successful council, we are not complacent about the challenges ahead. Over the next three years we will be delivering a programme of transformation as we strive to improve services and modernise.
This is an ideal time for you to join us. You will be key member of our Management Team and will make a significant contribution to the development of corporate strategy during this period of change and transformation.
You will take on a pivotal place making role as well as working corporately and with strategic partners, to identify opportunities, find linkages and create synergies to deliver the best outcomes for all in our borough.
We are looking for a natural and politically astute leader who can influence change to deliver the Council’s vision – building on what has already been achieved and providing shape and momentum to our place making agenda and wider council priorities.
This is a highly visible and influential role and, whilst your ability to inspire change is more important than technical qualifications, you will have the knowledge to offer assured decisions and advice across multiple services. This is likely to have been gained from a planning, regeneration or similar service.
Aside from the above you will have the personal credibility and an empowering approach that gets the very best out of people. This will come hand in hand with the ability to gain the trust and support of our elected members, strategic partners and other key stakeholders.
Our vision is to be a financially sustainable Council that delivers good value services, provides strong and clear leadership and, with our partners, addresses the needs of our borough. Central to this is our focus of providing excellent customer service to all our residents and visitors to the borough.
We are already in a good position, both financially and in terms of our performance. Therefore, the changes ahead are positive - building on what has already been to offer the best possible services.
We are a great council to work. We have a highly collaborative and enthusiastic management team which has the support and confidence of our elected members. This is somewhere where things can happen at pace and you can see the tangible results of your efforts.
