Situated in the heart of Berkshire, Reading Borough Council is looking for a hardworking and dedicated individual to join their Adult Care and Health Services Management Team. Responsible for providing effective leadership to a wide range of staff, you will be a crucial part of the department; maintaining consistency in the quality of services offered to our internal and external customers.
Leading the business support staff is a key part of this role. You will be responsible for providing them the tools to be well trained, well organised, motivated and customer focussed as they liaise with customers and deal with problems in their day-to-day roles. Sole responsibility and accountability for the service delivery and management of staff performance will fall to you, making sure that both performance outcomes and the Council’s objectives are achieved and delivered.
You will also be responsible for co-ordinating, prioritising and allocating resources across the Directorate, making sure that all the business support functions are effectively carried out. Managing team budgets and achieving set savings targets is also important, using innovative ideas and negotiating future service levels to achieve this.
With experience of successful leadership, and knowledge of local government finance, you should have excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to use your own initiative when making decisions and handling conflicts fairly and confidentially. You must also be a natural leader, with the capability to lead and motivate others efficiently and work within the Council’s vision.
