Strategic Business Manager

Neighbourhoods & Housing / Children, Adults and Community Health

Permanent - Full time

£52,089 - £53,112 per annum (PO8)

Hackney is London's most diverse and dynamic borough. Reaching from the edge of the City to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in technology, media, fashion and other creative industries. Hackney has more green spaces than any other inner London borough; some of the capital's finest schools; first class transport connections; excellent public services; and thriving arts, cultural and retail sectors. It is fast becoming one of London’s more popular areas to live, work and visit. Our challenge is to make sure the borough’s economic growth provides benefits for everyone and creates opportunities that will transform the lives of residents. We know that staff are key to the Council’s success and we are seeking people with ambition, creativity and commitment to our values to help us achieve the best for the local community.

We are looking for a highly-capable person to help maximise the effectiveness of the Council's two largest Directorates - Neighbourhoods & Housing and Children, Adults and Community Health. You will work across both and support the two Group Directors to further develop their priorities and plans, their processes and procedures, and their internal communication and engagement approaches. As part of ensuring effectiveness across both Directorates, you will be required to co-ordinate and deliver service reviews as well working to ensure both Directorates know their future demands. You will also play a role in setting strategy and policy and on generating high-standard performance management approaches which embrace creativity and innovation.

You will need to evidence success in managing complex and demanding programmes of work, with significant skills and knowledge suited to creating and sustaining a highly-effective organisation. You must have the skills, experience and confidence to work with a range of stakeholders, not least Cabinet Members and senior leaders across the Council.

At Hackney, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is stimulating, fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high profile organisation. If you share our values and are ready to be part of our exciting journey please visit our website www.hackney.gov.uk/jobs-careers to apply.

It is essential that you include a supporting statement (no more than 2 sides of A4) addressing how your skills, knowledge and experience meet all the aspects of the post, as indicated in the person specification. You may wish to use the Personal Specification when structuring this.

For an informal discussion about this post, please email Paul Horobin, Head of Corporate Programmes: Paul.Horobin@Hackney.gov.uk

Closing date: Sunday 23 September 2018 (22:59 hrs)

Interview date: Wednesday 3 October 2018

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working.
