The Planning Service at Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is a dynamic, fast paced, high performing, well staffed and supportive service which plays a fundamental role in shaping the attractive and varied townscapes and environments of the Borough. The Service operates on a positive and “open for business” approach, focussed - as is the Council’s Five Year Plan - on attracting the right investment and infrastructure to improve everybody’s quality of life, with good working relationships with elected Members.
These are exciting times in Planning Policy, as rapid progress is being made on the new Local Plan. The emerging development strategy presents great opportunities for delivering high quality places, balancing the delivery of growth with the protection of the built and natural environment and constraints such as flooding and the Green Belt. Similarly, the emerging strategic and Development Management policies are comprehensive and innovative, and the Council is working closely with Neighbourhood Development Plan groups so that policies are informed by local knowledge, and have community support.
We are looking for a Planning Policy Manager to lead the Policy Team and take forward the emerging strategy and policies. The role also has direct responsibility for the Landscape and Biodiversity Officer and Environmental and Monitoring Officer, who support Policy and Development Management and a range of corporate initiatives.
You will need to have extensive post qualification town planning experience in a Local Planning Authority and have excellent communication and presentation skills to enable you to convey complex and detailed issues to a wide range of customers and stakeholders. You will also be an experienced and dynamic manager who can motivate and lead a strong team of professionals.
The Planning Service operates on a collaborative approach, so that there is significant cross working between the Planning Policy and Development Management departments, and a demonstrative ability to work as part of a multi-faceted service will be key.
