Applications are invited for the post of Administrative Assistant in Public Protection Services, which includes Environmental Health and Licensing.  The successful applicant will be a member of a team undertaking duties to enable the smooth and efficient running of the Department’s Licensing Service. 

The main duties are to provide administrative support for the Licensing section of the Commercial Team, processing licensing applications and responding to enquiries. Other duties will include preparing reports, updating various paper and database records and providing written and verbal information.  In addition the post holder will provide advice and assistance to members of the public both face to face and over the telephone.

The successful applicant must have a minimum of 3 GCSEs including Maths and English (Grade C or above) or a relevant NVQ Level 2 e.g. Business Administration/Customer Service and have experience of working as an administrator.  Experience of dealing with the public in person and responding to enquiries in a calm manner is essential.  Applicants should have good communication skills, be able to converse at ease with customers and provide information in accurate spoken English, be able to deal with confidential/sensitive issues and work on their own initiative and as part of a team.

The post is offered on a part time basis of 20 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 9am – 1pm).

The successful candidate will be automatically enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme and will be required to obtain a Basic Disclosure.
