Sports Development Intern
Fixed term contract for one year
Salary: £16,963 per annum
Guildford Borough Council’s Leisure Development Team are looking for a self motivated and highly organised Sports Development Intern, with excellent organisational skills and a passion for developing participation in grassroots sport and physical activity.
This opportunity offers valuable experience for the right candidate to further their career in sports development and working in a local government environment.
You will be able to competently provide assistance and day to day support to the Sports Development Officer in planning, promoting, delivering and administering opportunities for local participation in sporting activity. Candidates should have excellent communication skills to be able to engage with a range of people. You should be confident in your ability to build relationships with local clubs, schools, coaches, other relevant organisations and partners.
To be successful as a Sports Development Intern, candidates should be professional, polite, and attentive to delivering a high level of customer service. You must feel comfortable with computers, general office tasks, and have good time management skills with the ability to work with fluctuating work demands and strict deadlines. You will be a team player and be able to make a valuable contribution to the Leisure Development Team.
You will have a sound knowledge and understanding of sports coaching and the field of sports development in the community.
Most importantly, you should have a sound understanding of the benefits of grassroots participation in sport and be able to demonstrate a good understanding of hard to reach groups, and the barriers people face in accessing opportunities for local participation in sport.

The successful candidate will have achieved or, be working towards a degree in sports development, leisure, coaching or equivalent related discipline and have some experience of delivering sport or physical activity.
