About the opportunity
Islington is a great place to live and work. Our diverse community pulls together, and we have a strong focus on fairness. That’s because Islington is also a place with a stark gap between the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’, and where one in three children is growing up in poverty. We’re determined to create a fairer Islington, where everyone has the chance to reach their potential and enjoy a good quality of life.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic, creative and hard-working media officer to join our communications team.
You will be making the news with stories about our work; dealing with inquiries from journalists from local, London and national media; devising compelling content for social media; and making sure council officers and councillors are kept up-to-date with media coverage that affects their work.
As part of the media team in our high-performing communications service you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in a range of exciting projects and campaigns.
You will have one or more years’ experience in a busy communications environment, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will have bags of initiative, be well-organised, and able to work to tight deadlines as part of a team.
You might already be working in a similar role, or in a related area of communications – for example journalism, social media, or marketing – and seeking to move into media.
Closing date: Sunday 23rd September 2018 at 23:59
Interviews will be held on 4 and 5 October 2018.
If you would like an informal discussion about this role, please contact Chris Roe, Media Manager on 020 7527 8751, or Sian Williams, Deputy Head of Communications and Change (Media and Corporate) on 020 7527 3376.
