About the role

Teaching Assistant – Hearing Support Facility, ISEND Sensory Needs Service

We currently have three different Teaching Assistant roles available across our Service.

The Sensory Needs team, have four specialist facilities for Deaf children located in mainstream schools in East Sussex. The facilities are centrally funded and the staff are employed by the Sensory Needs Team. All of the posts are Countywide, but you will be based at one of the four facilities initially.

Post 1: Willingdon Primary School HSF, Willingdon

Hours of work: 32.5 hours per week (8:30-15:30 Mon-Fri)
Working pattern: Term-time only 
Permanent Contract (Pro Rata salary will be £15,066 per annum)

Post 2: Manor Primary HSF, Uckfield

Hours of work: 19.5 hours per week (8:30-15:30 Mon, 9 -12.30 Tues-Fri)
Working pattern: Term-time only (pro rata salary for the hours worked equates to approximately £9059 per annum).

Post 3:  Priory HSF, Lewes

Hours of work: 32.5 per week (8.30 – 15.30 Mon-Fri)

Working Pattern:  Term-time only
Permanent Contract  (Pro Rata salary will be £15,066 per annum)

Teaching Assistant

An exciting and rewarding opportunity has arisen for a Teaching Assistant to join the ISEND Sensory Needs Service, supporting deaf children, in facilities within one of our mainstream schools.

Primarily what we are looking for are candidates with strong teaching assistant skills.  Whilst experience of working with deaf children and/or special needs would be welcomed, this is not essential as on-going training and support will be given. The current cohort are predominately oral communicators. We can provide additional training in sign language, if required. A strong background in primary or secondary education is a prerequisite of the post. We are looking for good teaching assistants who want to develop a specialism in this area.

Although your base will be at one of the Hearing Support Facility (HSF) initially you may, on occasion, be requested to cover at any of the other HSFs due to fluctuating numbers year on year in the facilities. This is so we can hold onto our staff rather than losing them. You are not attached to one specific child’s EHCP.

The post holder will be managed by the senior teacher in the facility and will assist in the support and inclusion of pupils who are hearing impaired in mainstream lessons, within a busy school environment and where appropriate in individual and small group sessions.

You will enjoy working in a small friendly and supportive team within a busy, successful mainstream school as well as having the support of Sensory Needs colleagues around you to develop your skills.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
