“Working to prevent youth offending and to enhance community safety”

North Somerset Youth Offending and Prevention Service (YOS) is a successful local multi-agency unit hosted within Children’s Services, North Somerset Council. It is subject to the governance of North Somerset Council and the YOS Management Board. Additional oversight and input are provided by the Youth Justice Board and funding partners.

The YOS manages a range of statutory and diversionary teams including services to the victims of crime. This Service delivers holistic programmes of care with young people subject to statutory youth justice interventions and to those at risk of offending through various diversionary and preventative programmes.

This post is specifically in relation to managing the Court and Community Supervision Team which includes delivering services to the Courts and Out of Court Panel and managing children and young people through a range of orders and programmes who are at risk of offending/reoffending, and the victims of crime and anti-social behaviour. Parents/carers are engaged as appropriate as part of a whole family approach.

The team includes Social Work, Probation and Police staff. The team is one of a number of teams that make up the Youth Offending and Prevention Service.

If you have the drive and motivation to make a positive difference in the lives of children and young people, and a commitment to public protection and addressing the needs of victims then this role may be for you. 

We are looking to appoint a person with significant relevant experience to:

  • manage and develop staff;
  • quality assure and deliver service requirements in accordance with HM Probation Inspectorate and Youth Justice Board standards;
  • frame objectives and evaluate against these;
  • lead and work in a team and across the Service;
  • work in partnership with various agencies e.g. Children’s Services, Courts Service, Probation Service, Police and education and health providers;
  • engage with children and young people with emotional/mental and generic health issues; and who are at risk of offending/reoffending

 

The post holder must have a social work or equivalent qualification with professional status; and significant experience of working in youth justice at a senior level.

This post is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitations of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
