This is an exciting opportunity to join a team who have been at the forefront of developing new and exciting ways of working, including innovative digital solutions that will both improve the existing planning application system as well as bring it into the 21st Century. This role would suit someone who has both Development Management and Policy related planning experience.

About the team

The Operations and Innovation team have led several existing innovative projects and worked collaboratively with partners across the country.  The team have been instrumental in ensuring Lambeth has been at the vanguard of digital innovation, working with other forward-thinking councils in developing pioneering online digital planning services. This has included several high profile and exciting projects including the reducing invalid planning applications (RIPA) and Back Office Planning systems (BOPS) projects. This role will have a particular focus on an exciting new project, that we have recently partnered with Camden council around digital engagement and site notices. All these projects aim to modernize the current planning application system and improve it for users and councils alike.

The role

We are looking for a talented, dynamic individual with a passion for digital planning solutions to lead our newest project, the Digital Site Notices project, with which we are partnering with Camden Council.  The project aims to enhance digital engagement through an online “digital planning notice” tool and to improve access to planning information and improved data collection and analytics. The successful candidate will also support the team’s work on other digital planning innovation programmes, as they emerge, as well as working on the RIPA and BOPS projects.

The role provides the perfect opportunity for you to progress your career on a range of exciting digital planning projects that will have a meaningful impact on the way Lambeth and England manage (town) planning processes.

The nature of the job requires someone who is open minded and willing to try different approaches as well as challenge accepted existing thinking.  They should have excellent communication and relationship building skills.  Experience, of working on transformational projects would be beneficial as well as s an understanding of and enthusiasm for digital planning solutions. Experience of working in both planning policy related areas and development management is desirable.

You will use your professional judgement to make reasoned and considered recommendations on complex matters, and present these to the Head of Operations and Innovation.
