An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced manager to join Adopt Birmingham. The Adoption service became a Regional Adoption Agency, Adopt Birmingham, at the start of 2022, with a unique and exciting partnership with a Voluntary Adoption Agency, Family Society (Adoption Focus).

The vacancy is for a half time post (18.5 hours pw) and the postholder would job share with the existing manager.

Across Adopt Birmingham, we have two dedicated, experienced assessment and support adoption teams. Our aim is to ensure all children have the chance to achieve the most positive outcomes, through assessing and supporting adopters who can meet the diverse needs of the children of Birmingham whose plan is adoption. The teams also deliver non- agency adoption service (including foreign element).

As a passionate and experienced professional, you will be responsible for managing your own workload and work completed by your social work team. The successful applicants must be focused and driven to make a positive difference and achieve change for the children we work with.

You will be provided with a supportive managerial environment where you will have access to the right tools, equipment and resources required to undertake your role. You will receive regular supervision and a comprehensive training programme which will support your career development. The service is working towards DDP partner status and most of the staff are trained to at least DDP level 1.

About you……

You will be an experienced manager or supervisor with a proven track record in children services, including adoption.

You will have extensive knowledge and an understanding of children’s legislation and processes particularly in adoption coupled with the application and understanding of the permanency needs of children from complex and diverse backgrounds. 

You will also have strong organisational and IT skills, as your time will be split between office-based and home working.

Key effective communication and positive relationship skills are essential, as well as clear, concise supervision records and managerial oversight of complex case work.

The ability to work effectively with colleagues and other agencies; solve problems, negotiate and make decisions.
