About Croydon

Croydon hasn’t seen expansion like we are currently experiencing since the 1960s. We’re already well underway with some £5bn of investment that will be completed over the next few years. New offices, new retail, and new homes will provide well-paid jobs and high-quality accommodation for our rapidly growing population.

Croydon is a naturally ambitious council – so we’re looking for inspirational leaders who share our passion for supporting business growth and responding to local needs.

Strong partnerships are the foundation for the future. That’s why we’re constantly looking forward. We need to find creative new ways of working together with other agencies and the private sector to deal with the financial challenges ahead.

Because with growth comes increased demand – but also huge opportunity.

Chances like this only come along once in a generation, and our task, and maybe yours, is to shape a positive future for Croydon’s residents and businesses alike.

About the Role

Croydon Council’s Gateway programme aims to empower and support families and individuals in achieving sustainable outcomes. Encouraging customers to take ownership and develop their own action plan to help them do this with our support, including:

Financial; budgeting support, a holistic view of debt, income maximisation

Employment; training, work experience, finding work

Housing; preventing homelessness, moving to suitable and affordable accommodation

As part of this approach we are committed to preventing and reducing homelessness by maximising the benefits of commissioned supported housing for single homeless people with support needs.

In this role you will minimise evictions and unplanned moves in supported housing for – amongst others – clients recovering from addictions, former rough sleepers, ex-offenders and young people. You will also coordinate and support planned moves to affordable, sustainable independent accommodation.

The post-holder will be confident in engaging and negotiating with supported accommodation providers and other organisation on behalf of clients to secure the best opportunities for them.

As such, the successful candidate will have a strong track record in:-

developing interventions which empower individuals to take ownership of their circumstances and take action to improve their lives

engaging with customers who can be hard to engage and may have a negative view of the council and its partner agencies

building relationships within the council and with other organisations in the public, private and voluntary sector and community groups

Equalities & Safeguarding statement

Croydon Council is an inclusive employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community. We will be pleased to consider applications from candidates seeking flexible working arrangements. As users of the disability confident scheme, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the advertised role
