About the Role

The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) service is a vital countywide service providing support and guidance for children, young people and families with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Our SEND Management Teams work with parents, schools and other professionals involved in the education of children and young people with Special Educational Needs. In total we have 4 Area based teams. This post will be based in the NW Area team. The team consists of an Assistant Team Manager, Case Workers and Assistant Case Officers.

The Case Worker role has been created following the new SEND legislation which focuses on person centred planning, co-production and outcomes to generate Education Health and Care Plans.

This is a Challenging role with Case Workers carrying significant responsibility for progressing individual cases in discussion with education colleagues and other agencies.

Duties may include:

  • Coordinating the collection of the assessments required to support the SEND business process system for new requests, transfers and annual reviews.
  • Networking with a variety of services, agencies and providers to gather information in order to support the family to make well informed choices, including parent support services.  This includes facilitating access to informal and formal mediation.
  • Attending the EHCP Annual Review Process and ensure review of process is outcome focused and person centred.

  • Ability to be emotionally resilient due to the nature of this work.
  • Evidence of good interpersonal skills as it is essential that you are able to work well as part of a team, and have a calm and sensitive approach in face-to-face meetings and telephone calls with parents/young people to build and maintain positive relationships.

Experience of using administrative systems with speed, efficiency and accuracy, especially when under pressure and working to tight deadlines; there is a high volume of work and you will need to be able to identify priorities for a wide range of tasks.
