Job introduction

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and confident receptionist to join our Service.

About the role

Brighton & Hove City Council Adolescent Service is part of a multi-agency Service based within Children's Safeguarding & Care services in Brighton & Hove under the Families, Children & Learning Directorate. The service works with young people who are at risk of family or care breakdown, at risk of exploitation, using substances, offending and other high risks. We engage with the vulnerable adolescents in the city, providing intensive joined up work to support them and their families to effect change.

We are recruiting a Receptionist to work at front of house at Regency Road.  The successful candidate will be an integral part of the Adolescent Service and will also be part of the wider business support team across Families, Children and Learning.

You will be given a full induction to the work of the Adolescent Service which includes multi-agency and multi-disciplined staff.

You will be working in a busy office environment with the ability to prioritise your workload around the demands of the service. This role involves the use of various computer packages. You will be organised and efficient with the ability to work both independent and as part of a team.  You will need to enjoy solving problems and managing an evolving workload with good time management skills being essential.

Here is what our Business Support say about working in Families, Children & Learning:

“The diversity of duties and working in Children’s Services is what attracted me to the role”

“Supporting my social workers gives me a lot of job satisfaction – I feel like I am really involved in helping families’ lives”

“Feeling you have helped a client in the absence of the social worker in trying to sort out their problems. Having an understanding of their case and developing a rapport with some of the parents.”

Key skills you can offer:

  • A friendly, welcoming demeanour
  • A flexible, adaptable approach to work
  • The ability to effectively manage your workload according to business priorities
  • Ability to deal with confidential information tactfully and with discretion
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Competent in working with Outlook and Microsoft Office packages

Our offer to the successful candidate:

  • Career average pension scheme
  • Generous annual leave
  • Being an active part of group supervisions
  • 1-2-1 support from your Business Support Manager
  • A program of learning and development opportunities through the Council’s training programme.
  • An online toolbox of resources to support the work of the Receptionist.
  • Peer mentoring from other business support colleagues across the service
  • Benefits such as: bus ticket and cycle loans; reduced cost gym membership with Freedom Leisure
