Salary: £34,106 - £37,107 plus recruitment payment of £3,710 (Half of payment released 6 months after commencing and second half released 12 months following commencement).

Your role in our journey
As the Senior Transport Planner you will be primarily responsible for assessing major planning applications that affect the highway network and to work with a team of engineers to discharge the Council’s responsibilities in relation to Sections 38 and 278 of the Highways Act. You will enjoy a range of responsibilities, with a focus on processing planning applications that affect the local highway network. Members, council officers and external organisations will look to you for advice and guidance. You’ll ensure laws, plans and policies are understood, and you’ll make recommendations to the Planning Board. You will also help with the operational management of the team.
What you’ll need
To join us, you’ll need a relevant Level 6 qualification, and to be eligible for membership of an appropriate professional body. An experienced supervisor within a highway development control team, you’ll bring to the role an extensive track record of achievements. To succeed as a Senior Transport Planner you must have substantial experience of assessing submissions, establishing design principles and developing necessary highway interventions through the planning process as well as highly developed communication, influencing and negotiating skills and an ability to reconcile conflicting issues.
This should include dealing with planning applications for complex and contentious developments, assessing submissions, establishing design principles, and appearing at public hearings as an expert witness. An excellent communicator, you also have significant experience of making services better.
