About the Role
Our service is a fast paced, busy and supportive duty team completing child and family assessments, section 47s, Child Protection and Child in Need work whilst planning for permanence from day one. You will undertake assessments and interventions with children and families. Surrey is implementing Signs of Safety as the framework to support social work practice
We are looking for an experienced social worker who is looking for an opportunity to progress to a senior social worker role.
As a senior social worker in Surrey as well as carrying a more complex caseload you will have the opportunity to support and co-work with less experienced members of the team. You will supervise family support workers and act as work based supervisor for students.
You will work with the other senior social workers in the assessment teams to identify areas where practice can be improved and under the direction and guidance of the management team will lead on agreed areas of improvement and practice development.
You will receive regular reflective supervision, access to a comprehensive training programme and guidance from a supportive management team.
As a Senior Social Worker you will undertake assessments of need, care planning and, child protection investigations, aiming to prevent the separation of children from their families where possible, and to ensure that children and young people are adequately protected in line with departmental policy, procedures and relevant legislation. You will support alternative permanent care for children who have to be separated from their families in a timely fashion.
You will ensure a positive, high profile for Surrey Children’s Services in its dealings with the public, users and carers and external agencies is maintained. You will act as a mentor to social workers and support their professional development, and undertake duties of a practice teacher as required. You will also assess and manage the risk involved in protecting vulnerable children and young people, distinguishing levels of risk for different situations, to prevent harm and abuse. Throughout, there will be the opportunity for you to contribute to the regular monitoring and review of services established to facilitate service improvement.
