Library Manager
Today’s public library is more than a collection of books. It’s hub for community activities, a place to access digital technology, and a gateway to reading, information and wellbeing.
All of which means today’s librarians need skills that are much more community focused. Modern librarians are inspiring, imaginative, outgoing – and passionate about access to learning. They come from all walks of life. Could you be one of them?
We’re looking for a new manager for our Ware library to help us promote the library service to the wider community. As well as managing a team of frontline customer services staff, you’ll work in partnership with other local organisations and get involved in outreach activities to improve access and participation.
You’ll also lead by example, working directly with the public. It’s a hugely varied role that could see you reading stories to children, directing older people to wellbeing resources, or assisting a homeless person with internet access.
Success in this role depends more on life experience than formal experience. We look for people who are great communicators and who are enthusiastic about taking on a wide range of different projects and initiatives. As we’ll need you to deliver to targets, you’ll be well-organised and responsible, with some IT skills. If you have a background in business management or people management, so much the better. This could be a first step to a long-term career in libraries management or a late-career role that allows you to work more locally and give something back.
We’re reinventing our libraries and you could be part of it.
