If you are the kind of person who approaches everything they do with energy and purpose, who is conscientious in their work and has a passion for democracy and governance then we are looking for you.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council is an ambitious local authority with big plans for the future and massive opportunities ahead. With one of the most successful enterprise zones in the country, Great Yarmouth is England’s offshore energy hub and Norfolk’s biggest seaside resort at the edge of the Broads National Park.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s Legal and Governance Department and we are looking for an experienced and pro-active Senior Democratic Services Officer to join a small dynamic Democratic Services Team.

The Senior Democratic Services Officer is responsible for providing support services to Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s democratic decision making process, supporting a number of different committees and offering advice on the application and interpretation of constitutional procedures to elected Councillors, Senior Officers, members of the public and external agencies. This role will support and deputise for the Corporate and Democratic Services Manager and will deal with more complex agendas and committees.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with a great attention to detail and a high standard of presentation. The right candidate will need to be organised, accurate, able to work under pressure to predetermined deadlines and have a sound understanding of local government.

You must be proficient in the use of ICT systems. Experience of using CMIS, the Council’s Committee Management System, would be an advantage

Although the hours are 37 per week, this vacancy is not always a 9 to 5 role as you will be required to attend regular evening meetings therefore the post holder must be available to work "out of the normal office hours" during the week as dictated by the requirements of the service.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with experience and interest in this field.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a professional and committed team and we look forward to receiving your application
