Shipyard Town is an exciting two-year project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, BAE Systems and Barrow Borough Council, focussing on the rich heritage of Barrow’s main industry from the 1950s to the present day, as well as looking to the future. Shipyard Town will include the creation of a new permanent shipbuilding gallery, development of a research room, upgrading of the museum’s entrance, and new online and educational activities at the Dock Museum, Barrow in Furness.
Applications are invited for a Digitisation Officer who will have responsibility for digitising shipbuilding collections as part of the Shipyard Town Project, with the aim of engaging with new audiences and sharing hidden or lesser known, local stories related to Barrow’s shipyard.
The postholder will be working on the collections management system, Mimsy XG, and setting up and managing a Digital Asset Management System. The successful applicant will have a methodical and accurate approach to work. You will be able to work effectively under pressure, observe deadlines and work successfully independently, and as part of a team.
The post is offered on a full-time basis of 37 hours per week as a fixed term contract for 24 months.
The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide information, advice and instruction in accurate spoken English is an essential requirement.
The successful candidate will be automatically enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme and will be required to obtain a Basic Disclosure.
