Gravedigger / Gardener
The Council is looking to appoint a new gravedigger / gardener to work in our small but busy bereavement services team. We are looking for someone who is fit, willing and has the right attitude to work in a unique but rewarding environment.
Key duties will include:
• Grave digging, preparation and dressing for interments and cremated remains
• Grounds maintenance including grass cutting, strimming, weeding and general tidying up
• Emptying of litter bins and any other duties as required for the safe and effective operation of the service
And you will need to demonstrate the following:
• Experience of working in a cemetery or a similar comparable environment
• Experience of dealing with grounds maintenance or similar work
• Enthusiasm, empathy, sympathy and flexibility
• Passion for meeting deadlines and ensuring that service standards are met
A full driving licence is desirable as although based at the Watling Street cemetery, the job involves visits to other sites including the Council’s Stone and Swanscombe cemeteries and the closed churchyards.
Experience of using a mini-digger and dumper is desirable, as is the ability to tow a trailer, but full training will be provided for the right candidate.
