Chelmsford City Council is looking for an enthusiastic Deputy Elections Manager to join the team ahead of the busy city and parish council elections in 2023. 

Chelmsford is a vibrant and diverse city in Essex with an electorate of approximately 130,000 and continuing development. Chelmsford City Council is a supportive and creative employer in which plenty of training and developmental opportunities are offered. 

This is a newly created post to support the Democracy and Elections Manager in administering elections and electoral registration across Chelmsford and to deputise in their absence. Including all elections and referendums, Community Governance, Polling District and other boundary reviews. In particular, the successful candidate would be expected to lead on managing staff for the canvassing and elections, delivering engagement strategies across the city and provide support in receipt of nominations. 

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in electoral administration, including dealing with candidates and other key stakeholders. In addition to this they will have a sound understanding of electoral, either holding the AEA certificate or be willing to work towards it. They will be committed, well-organised and able to work effectively as part of a team in a high pressurised environment. A commitment to running an efficient and first-class service is essential, as well as the ability to be innovative and fast thinking.  

During peak periods there may be a requirement to work additional hours, including evenings and weekends to meet demanding deadlines.
