Youth and Family Resilience/Children Social Care Project Officer Apprentice

Full Time – Fixed Term (21 months)

The Families Directorate of Waltham Forest is working to the principles of Safe, Well, Independent and Resilient and we recognise that preventing children entering the criminal justice system and reducing reoffending is fundamental to achieving these principles for children and young people.  As a service, we take a child first approach.

This role involves being part of the inter-disciplinary Youth Justice Service that provides community and through care services to young people who progress through the Criminal Justice process.  The successful candidate will assist project leads with the planning and delivery of the programmes aimed at reducing offending behaviour and providing children and young people with positive activities.

The key accountabilities for this role include:-

  • Ability to support the YJS manager and VIP lead to organise programmes and participants for the Summer YJS Programme
  • Ability to support training for staff, specifically assisting the ‘Your Choice’ lead with organising relevant training
  • Ability to assist the VIP lead with organising groups and recording feedback including monitoring of the progress, outputs, outcomes and achievements of the project
  • Ability to engage with young people and their parents and empathise with their perspective, adopting a child first approach.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and address risks presented by young people to themselves and others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to use IT to record work effectively
  • Being organised with the ability to work effectively and professionally under pressure.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with partners and work across organisational boundaries
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Anne-Marie Koroma, Acting Head of Service on: 07776660067.
