Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Workers support victims and children across the continuum from early identification and preventative approaches through to more targeted help where families are experiencing more complex or multiple difficulties. At every level, support is designed to address and reduce the problems or challenges and prevent them getting worse.

You will be expected to lead, supervise and provide oversight of a team that provides direct intervention to victims and their families through targeted support and partnership working with both internal and external partners including Children's social care and police.

You will manage specialist Domestic Abuse Workers based in the Integrated Front Door, to provide initial risk analysis and immediate and direct support to victims, or as part of the Family Safeguarding Model, working with children's social workers to provide direct one to one and group support to parents affected by abuse.

You will also work with partner organisations to ensure victims receive the advice, information, and support that they require, including the provision of practical support where appropriate to reduce risk and promote safety.

You will have a passion for working with victims and their families, along with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines whilst managing demand. You will need to be able to manage a range of different activities in order to determine how to meet the future needs of children, develop procedures, and / or analyse information and statistics.

Key Skills:

  • Ability to organise / prioritise work with excellent crisis management skills, co-ordinating a variety of tasks in a clear and logical way and meet agreed deadlines and outcomes without supervision.
  • Leadership ability in order to motivate others to provide the highest possible level of service to clients, and to deal with stressful, difficult situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence the actions of others and communicate information which may be complex and contentious. Including the ability to negotiate solutions across wide areas of the business, manage conflict and successfully convince others of the need to take a specific course of action with a child first approach.
  • Analytically minded with the ability to judge, analyse and interpret varied and highly complex situations to produce strategies over the long term e.g. interpret and solve issues by coordinating with multiple agencies across the county, such as schools, CAMHS, Adult Services, Social Care, Police, etc.
  • Ability to anticipate problems, plan solutions and make sound pragmatic problem-solving decisions which will have a wider service impact, particularly in relation to providing a varied service, resource issues, partnership building (internally or externally) and the day-to-day management and direction of the team.
  • Effective people and performance management skills and the ability to provide direction and motivate and inspire the team to deliver quality professional practice.

Qualifications and/or experience:

  • Relevant qualification at degree level in a relevant subject, or demonstrable experience in a paid or unpaid capacity of providing support to people in stressful and difficult situations.
  • IDVA qualification or willingness to work towards this.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a multi-agency environment with victims of domestic and/or sexual violence.
  • Experience of working within legislative frameworks to support victims and using their application to develop, influence and promote safety for clients.
  • Advanced theoretical knowledge of systems, procedures and policies in specialist areas e.g. child protection, domestic abuse, data protection, relevant law, national guidance, risk management, health and safety, safeguarding, evidence-based practice of what works within family support.
  • Valid and full driving licence and access to a vehicle/ability to travel around the county independently.
