About the role

SWIFT Child Assessment Team have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced worker to join our Children’s Therapeutic Service.

The Children’s Therapeutic Service offers support for children, young people and their parents/carers when we are worried that sexual abuse has happened in their family and/or wider networks. We meet with children, young people and their families both together and separately to think about how we can help them recover from what has happened to them. This may involve supporting them to talk about what has happened and helping family members talk to each other. Children and young people are given the opportunity to spend some time on their own with a worker who will use educative and creative methods to help them express their feelings and make sense out of what has happened to them. Parents and carers can play a really important part in helping their children recover, therefore we may offer some individual support and some joint sessions with their child. The service  feeds back to the referring social worker or agency throughout the process and work collaboratively with them to support the family in the best way possible.

For this post it will be important for you to have relevant experience in therapeutically informed practice with children, young people and their families. You will  have knowledge of the impact of child sexual abuse on both the individual and those around them. You will also be required to contribute to the developing knowledge of colleagues both within SWIFT and partner agencies through consultation and training. In recognition of the complexities and nature of this role it will be important for you to demonstrate ways in which you have made use of both personal and professional support mechanisms. You will be provided with relevant training, regular supervision and clinical consultation via your multi-disciplinary colleagues within the broader SWIFT Child Assessment Team and Sexual Risk team.
