Cannock Chase District lies at the northern edge of the West Midlands conurbation and possesses a unique blend of urban and rural landscapes including a large part of the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Situated on the edge of the West Midlands conurbation it is well connected providing excellent links to the wider area.

 

These are exciting times to be working at Cannock Chase as the area prepares to host the Commonwealth Games mountain bike events in the area and prepares to deliver regeneration and growth through the recently announced £20 million Levelling Up funding allocation. This follows on from the recent opening of the first phase McArthur Glen Designer Outlet at Mill Green as well as progressing the redevelopment of the former Rugeley Power Station site alongside Lichfield District.

 

The district has experienced significant employment, housing and retail growth in recent years that looks to continue through the Local Plan Review. The Local Plan will be at Regulation 19 stage in the Autumn when the next stage of consultation is due to take place. The plan will seek to balance the need to manage development pressure and also protect and retain the districts many natural and built assets. To facilitate this process, we are seeking a highly experienced Planning Policy Manager to lead the Planning Policy team.

In addition to managing people and processes you will also need to be the Council’s ambassador and negotiator at the neighbourhood and regional level. There is also an opportunity to play a key role in the management of the Cannock Chase AONB. The ideal candidate will have experience of successfully progressing a Local Plan through the stages of preparation including management responsibility. You will be expected to have a proactive and flexible approach to work and in your role as lead officer on Planning Policy matters, be able to articulate information clearly, both written and verbal, to Members, professionals and non-professionals in a variety of settings.

In addition, you should be IT literate in the use of Microsoft Office packages such as Word and Excel and have experience of GIS applications.
