The Role:

Orient Street Short Breaks Respite Service is a service which supports children and adults with learning disabilities. It provides a person centred, safe, caring and stimulating living environment for children, young people and adults with learning disabilities.

 

As a Team Leader your focus would be on providing person centred support in a safe and caring environment while also offering opportunities for residents to maximise their independence and engage in ordinary living and community life.

 

Your role will also be to develop and support team members in their roles. This includes planning and arranging activities, everyday living support including personal care, domestic support, managing health and safety and supervising team members. This is a fantastic opportunity for people first entering management or those that wish to develop their carer.

 

You will:

  • Work as part of a team to provide person centred support in line with the individuals care and support plan this may include supporting people to engage in activities, in their personal care such as supporting people to wash, bathe, dress, with eating and attending to toileting needs in an empowering and respectful and will undertake manual handling duties as required in accordance with individual care plans.
  • Act as a key worker to clients as directed by senior staff, to liaise and maintain communication with carers, and other professionals within the Department and with external agencies.
  • Maintain and update records including risk assessments, handling plans and management plans in an accurate and timely manner (paper and electronic) to support clients’ wellbeing and ensure clear handover and communication with colleagues and manager.
  • Effectively lead, coordinate and manage care and ancillary staff during a shift in providing care and support which responds flexibly to the needs of the client and the service.
  • Take responsibility for the mentoring and development of staff including support supervision and appraisals.

 

About You:

We are looking for a person with experience of supporting children and adults with learning disabilities and experience of developing and supporting staff to join our team as a Team Leader.

 

You will be required to work as part of a rolling rota where you will on average work 36 hours a week over 5 shifts working typically either 7:00 to 15:00 or 14:00 to 22:00 this is subject to variation and change.

 

Post holders will hold a Level 4 Children’s Young People’s and Family Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard or equivalent education (approved by assessors) or be prepared to undertake this course on successful completion of their probation.
