Overview

Harrow Council’s People Services Directorate is currently recruiting for a Court of Protection and Protection of Property Officer to join their Adult Services Division.  The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the protection of service users’ property including delivering the council’s statutory funerals service. Also making applications to the Court of Protection for Deputyships (finance) or to the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) for appointeeships for those without mental capacity and family members willing to take on the responsibility.  The role safeguards the funds of the person subject to the Deputyship and ensures that their best interests are served at all times. 

About you

The successful applicant will have:

  • Knowledge  of the Council’s statutory duties under Section 48 of the National Assistance Act, 1948 (Protection of Property) and
    Section 46, Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984 (Burials and Cremations).
  • Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005; Court of Protection rules 2017; and professional Deputy standards
  • Knowledge of the role of the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) and Court of Protection
  • Experience Court of Protection related matters e.g. making applications
  • Ability to work under pressure and organise work efficiently in order to meet Court and OPG deadlines
