This is a rare opportunity to opportunity to gain experience working at the heart of the Reading’s political administration.

Our work is fast paced and varied, providing impartial administration support, guidance and advice to all Elected Councillors, from the Leader of the Council through to backbenchers and opposition Councillors.

About the role

You’ll join a customer focused, specialised administration team which provides a proactive support service to Councillors, taking responsibility for prioritising and maximising resource time on behalf of all Councillors, also providing cover for the Mayoralty and assisting with major Mayoral events.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and secretarial support to Councillors
  • Booking and promotion of regular Councillor Ward Surgeries
  • Understand political sensitivity and respect the importance of safeguarding confidentiality

About you

We’re looking for someone with a strong customer focus, who can work intuitively in a professional manner. We’ll need you to be comfortable with changing priorities and able to communicate with a wide variety of people.

The following experience will really help you to hit the ground running:

  • Office based administration experience
  • Working under pressure and to deadlines
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative with minimal supervision and meet expected delivery schedules.
