Lambeth’s street markets reflect the borough’s diverse communities and cultures, with historic traditional markets offering a wide range of good value fruit and vegetables, clothing and household goods, complemented by weekend markets selling food, arts and crafts, and pop-up food events. Our markets have strong links with local communities, food growing projects, small businesses, start-ups and festivals.
We are now recruiting to a new Markets team to oversee and develop our street markets in Lambeth, and there is an exciting opportunity to apply for the posts below.
The Markets Officers will play a key role in supporting the Markets and Street Trading Manager to deliver and develop high quality, well-run markets across the borough.
Day to day activities include carrying out inspections, processing and keeping track of licence applications, fee payments and income, managing waiting lists, providing advice, carrying out reviews, ensuring quality and compliance, and undertaking enforcement action.
Successful applicants will require excellent communication skills, as a key part of the role is to liaise regularly with colleagues across the council and other boroughs as well as the various regulatory bodies, and to work in partnership with licensed market traders, visiting market operators and market management contractors.
Occasional working outside of normal office hours is required for all posts as markets and individual pitches operate over seven days a week.
Successful candidates will be offered the post subject to clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service. Further information can be found at www.disclosure.gov.uk
The closing date for the receipt of completed application forms is Sunday 30th September at midnight.
Interviews will be held on Tuesday 16th October and Wednesday 17th October.
